Dr. Malcolm Betruger is a character from Doom 3, voiced by Philip L. Clarke. He is the head scientist of the UAC on Mars.

SPOILER WARNING: Plot details follow.

At the start of Doom 3, Betruger is being investigated by Councilor Swann for his strange activities. He is a madman obsessed with the occult and satanism. He steals the soul cube from the Mars Base and secures it in Hell so that the Marines there have no chance of combatting the forces of Hell, especially its mightiest warrior, the Cyberdemon, who is vulnerable only to the soul cube's attack. Even when the demons are destroying all resistance on Mars, he refuses to turn over complete control of the base to the Marines. When marine reinforcements arrive at the base, they are unable to find Betruger-Because he is in hell.

Dr. Bertruger makes a second appearance in the Doom series merged with the Maledict (He can also be seen merged with the Maledict in the ending cutscene of Doom 3) in Doom 3: Resurrection of Evil. There, he is slain by Doomguy.

[edit] Trivia

Betruger's name comes from the German word "BetrĂ¼ger" which means "deceiver" or "traitor".

Dr. Reinhard from Evil Dead: Regeneration has several similarities to Betruger. In addition to looking similar (with a solid white eye), both were said to have been good before their pacts with the undead. They also have German names.
