"The Delta Complex isn't safe. You're crazy if you're going there."
― T. Ryan to the Marine [src]

T. Ryan is a minor character in Doom 3. He was an archaeological scientist who was assigned in Site 2, having survived the initial wave of the demonic invasion by hiding within the Monorail tram stationed in the Environmental Processing Center.

Shortly after the player activates the tram to get to Site 2, Ryan investigates from one of the cars to see what has happened. Upon sight of the player, he questions them on what they were doing. Confused and terrified, he explains that he was waiting for his partner who never returned. Having no idea what is going on, he speculates that the invasion must be connected with the artifacts he unearthed at Site 2 and the Delta Labs. Feeling unsure what to do next during the ride, he decides to remain on the tram with the doors locked until he gets to the Delta Labs, leaving the player to explore Site 2 to unlock an entry path to the Delta Labs. When the player returns however, a Trite was found outside the tram right next to Ryan's mutilated body parts, suggesting the demon lured him out of the tram before cornering and slaughtering him.

Trivia[]

  • Because Ryan was left alone on the tram, the player is indirectly responsible for his death.
    • He will always die, no matter how fast the player tries to go back to the monorail after opening the doors.
  • It is likely Ryan's partner was the Marine seen in the intro of the level, being transformed into a Commando by Betruger.
  • The player can see Ryan earlier by standing behind the tram. He can be seen trying to hide within.
  • Ryan is one of the very few characters that cannot be killed after the demon invasion.
  • He does not react to any of the enemies fought around the monorail.
  • T. Ryan may be related to Mark Ryan.
