Crossover fiction is often confused with references and homages to other media    um... by whom?  Maybe I'm old-fashioned, but I trust the Doom community to be able to look at an easter egg and not seriously try to interpret it as extended canon.    Ryan W 22:03, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

In fact, "references" is what it's all about in any case, and what an encyclopedic reference can deal with most objectively. While I think listing cross-references and uses in games and mods may be a productive idea, "fiction" is better used to differentiate fiction from non-fiction (why in this case?), and "universe" comes out as a term used by those trying to present product and franchise material in a way that looks less commercial. Using something like Game crossover mods and references or simply Crossover references would lead to a better article. Who is like God? 22:20, 27 March 2008 (UTC)
